The Challenge
The book tackles the question of a cultural conflict manifest in the last rites given to the people who died from Covid 19. The Muslims in Sri Lanka do not cremate their dead due to religious norms, but the Buddhists and Hindus do. This was seen as a human rights violation.
Execution
The cover of the book was inspired by theĀ visual to the right. The symbolic use of the visual captures the emotions of anguish and helplessness, and the white knots symbolize hope. The colour green represents the Muslim community as in the national flag. The cover, therefore, symbolically captures the conflicts that arise when cultural diversity isĀ not respected and protected.
